Western Argentine city of Mendoza yesterday became the scene of serious incidents ahead of the Copa America tournament between Chile and Uruguay, which ended in draw 1: 1.

Due to the geographical location of Mendoza, near the border with Chile, many fans of Latin American countries attended the match.

Unrest began on the square in the center of Mendoza, where several hundred Chileans were attacked with stones by the Argentinian fans. Incidents also occurred elsewhere in the city. Police reported three policemen wounded, one photographer and an unspecified number of fans. Seven people were arrested.

That Friday was the last day of classes before winter school holidays (lasting two weeks), then many high school students did not go to school and went to different squares and parks to "celebrate" (surely many with alcohol), and one of those squares full of students just was in front of the hotel that housed the Chilean national football team, which made coincide them (students) with many Chilean fans who were in the square waiting that the players go to the stadium.
As this city is near to the border with Chile, there is some rivalry between the people of both places, that grew in the sport, so the students began to insult the Chilean fans and then attacked them with stones.
